Music and Lyrics by Jerry Herman
Book by Michael Stewart
Based on Thorton Wilder's play The Matchmaker, Hello Dolly tells the story of matchmaker Dolly Levi. Hired to find a wife for Yonkers merchant Horace Vandergeldlr, Dolly undertakes to re-arrange not only his life but that of his head clerk, Cornelius. By the end of the musical, Cornelius has fallen in love, had an adventure, and received a promotion. Horace has a new wife, but not the one he planned. And Dolly has everything she wants.
