At the height of the 1920's, high living Mame becomes the guardian of her 10 year nephew, Patrick. She introduces him and his nanny into the world of New York high society. After she loses her money in the Great Depression, Mame tries a series of job where she meets Beau, a wealthy Southerner, who she marries. Mame returns to New York when Beau dies. Patrick has grown up and is thinking of marriage. But as one child is leaving the nest, another enters and Mame has a new charge to lead into life.
